FAQ - Laser Tattoo Removal
Enlighten is the most advanced laser system for the effective and safe removal of tattoos.
How does Enlighten Laser Tattoo Removal differ from other Laser Tattoo Removal options?
It features extremely short and high-power picosecond laser pulses which efficiently and quickly break down the ink particles in tattoos. A “picosecond” is one-trillionth of a second and is 1,000 times shorter than the “nanosecond” pulses used in existing lasers for tattoo removal. Picosecond laser pulses have been shown to remove tattoos more completely and in fewer treatment sessions than traditional lasers used in the past.
Am I a good candidate for a tattoo removal treatment?
Enlighten can remove all ink colors, including difficult blues and greens. Previously treated tattoos can also effectively be removed. If you have been treated elsewhere with a different laser and have not had much improvement, don’t worry! Enlighten is a superior tattoo removal laser and is very successful treating traditionally difficult tattoos.
What does the treatment feel like?
Patients compare the procedure to a rubber band being snapped against their skin. We ice the area to numb the skin prior to treatment, and we our Zimmer machine to blow cool air on your skin as we are treating, which greatly improves comfort.
How long does the treatment take?
This depends on the size of the tattoo and the number of colors present, but a treatment can take as little as 30 seconds for a small tattoo!
Who performs this treatment?
All Laser Tattoo Removal treatments are performed by one of our well-trained skincare professionals. They are extensively trained before performing our treatments and are overseen by Dr. Ricks.
How many treatments are required?
The number of treatments required varies depending on the composition, depth, and the color of the ink, as well as the size of the tattoo. You should be prepared for multiple treatment sessions, and your provider can give you a better idea of the total number of treatments needed during your consultation.
Why are multiple sessions required?
Tattoo ink is deposited deep in the skin. In order to reach all of the ink in the skin, multiple sessions are needed for clearance. Depth, size, and color of the tattoo also impact the number of treatments needed.
Are there any side-effects following the treatment?
Most patients experience redness and swelling immediately following the treatment. These side-effects are temporary.
Is there any downtime?
Patients can return to regular activities immediately following the treatment.
Will the tattoo completely disappear?
In many cases, yes. However, it is very important to know that some ink colors are more difficult to clear than others. Consult with your Enlighten provider to determine if Enlighten is right for you.
Is maintenance required?
Once your tattoo has disappeared, no further maintenance is required.
How much does it cost?
Pricing varies based on the size of the tattoo. Consult with your provider to determine the cost for your treatments and find out what package and payment plan options are available for you.
